Move Forward Without Falling Behind When Work, Family, or Life Gets Busy
Your schedule does not always stay the same.
Work gets busy. Family plans change. You travel. Sometimes you simply need more time to understand one lesson before moving on.
Self-Paced gives you a way to keep learning Japanese without having to move at exactly the same speed as everyone else.
Self-Paced does not mean learning alone.
You move through the course at your own pace, while your instructor is there to help you understand, practice, and keep moving forward.
Learn at your pace. Get help when you need it. Keep moving forward.

Self-Paced was created around problems students were actually having.
Some students missed a class because work became busy and then felt like the rest of the class had moved ahead.
Others did not fully understand something but hesitated to ask more questions because everyone else was ready to continue.
Self-Paced gives you another way to learn.
You can continue from where you are instead of feeling pressured to keep up with someone else’s pace.
In Self-Paced, you work through structured Japanese course material according to your own progress.
That means you can spend more time on something difficult and move forward when you are ready.
One week, you may have more time to study at home and use class for conversation and pronunciation.
Another week, you may be busy and need to use more of your class time for study and questions.
Your learning can adjust when your life changes.
Self-Paced connects home study with instructor support in class.
Your Self-Paced study can include:
These activities give you time to review, repeat, and prepare outside class at your own pace.

Bring what you studied and the parts you want to check.
You can ask questions, check what you misunderstood, work on pronunciation, receive feedback, and practice the Japanese you have been learning.
Class time can focus on the parts you need to check, practice, and improve.

Self-Paced still leads back to real communication.
After studying and checking your Japanese, you can use it in Language Exchange with Japanese students who are learning English too.
Something that began in the Study Room or Workbook can become a real question, answer, reaction, or conversation.
You do not have to wait until your Japanese is perfect before you use it.
Self-Paced is not one Japanese level. It is a way of learning that lets you move through different Japanese courses according to your level, goal, and progress.
Start from the basics and continue through the Beginners curriculum.
Beginners 1 also has Lecture and Intensive-Lecture options, while Beginners 2–4 continue through Self-Paced.
Build on your foundation and begin saying more about everyday life.
Develop stronger grammar and vocabulary for longer, more detailed conversations.
Work toward JLPT N5, N4, or N3 with structured Japanese study and test preparation.
Self-Paced describes how you learn.
Fixed and Flex describe how you attend.
Choose Fixed if you want the same scheduled class days and times each week.
You keep a regular routine while continuing through your Self-Paced curriculum according to your own progress.

You do not have to imagine what Self-Paced means.

You do not need a perfectly predictable schedule to keep learning Japanese. Even when your week changes, you still have a curriculum to follow, an instructor to ask for help, and opportunities to use what you are learning with other people.
Some weeks you may study more, and other weeks you may need to slow down. Self-Paced gives you room to adjust without feeling like you have to start over every time life gets busy.
Learn on your schedule — without learning alone.
