Before You Come to Blue House
You may already be thinking about taking a Japanese class, but still have a few practical questions before you decide.
Where is Blue House? Where should you park? Which class should you look at? Do you need to take a Trial Lesson first?
Here are the things that are helpful to know before you come.
Blue House Okinawa is located near Sunabe Seawall, close to Kadena Air Base Gate 1.
Before your first visit, take a look at the map and entrance photo below. Knowing what the building looks like before you arrive can make that first visit much easier.
Blue House Okinawa does not have its own parking lot.
If you are driving, please park along Sunabe Seawall and walk to the school from there. The walk only takes a few minutes, but give yourself a little extra time on your first visit.
Please do not park directly in front of Blue House Okinawa or along the surrounding residential streets.
We want to be good neighbors to the people who live around the school, too.
You do not need to know Japanese before you begin.
Beginners 1 Class is the starting point for complete beginners.
You’ll start with pronunciation, greetings, Hiragana, and simple Japanese.
If Japanese is completely new to you, there is already a clear place to begin.
If you want a little more guidance before looking at the full class page:
If you have studied Japanese before, you may not need to start over.
Maybe you can already handle simple everyday Japanese but want to keep a conversation going longer. Maybe you want to explain your experiences and opinions in more detail, focus mainly on practical speaking, or prepare for the JLPT.
You can compare the different Japanese classes and start around the point where the Japanese begins to feel new.
Class times and tuition depend on the class and the way you choose to attend.
The current weekly schedule, tuition, Fixed and Flex options, registration fee, and materials fees are kept together on the Tuition & Schedule page.
That way, you can compare the current practical details in one place instead of finding different versions across several pages.
Some weeks are simply busier than others.
Blue House has different ways to learn and different ways to attend, so Japanese does not have to fit only one rigid routine.
A Fixed Schedule gives Japanese a regular place in your week. Flex gives you more control over when and how often you attend available classes.
If your schedule changes often, compare those two options before you choose.
No.
A Trial Lesson is available if you would like to experience Blue House before deciding, but it is optional.
If you already know which Japanese class you want, Direct Enrollment is also available.
Already know which class you want?
Once you know which class you want to take, the next step is enrollment.
You do not need to work out the process from different pages. The enrollment guide will take you through what to do next.
You do not have to know exactly how far you want to take your Japanese before you begin.
You can start with one class, learn something small, and see where it goes.
A word that used to pass by unnoticed may suddenly make sense on a sign. You may recognize something someone says at a store, order something in Japanese, or find yourself using a sentence you could not say before.
Those small moments are part of learning Japanese while you are living in Okinawa.
When you are ready, choose the Japanese class that fits where you want to begin.
