Know What to Study, Practice the Skills You Need, and Work Toward Your JLPT Goal Step by Step
If passing the JLPT is your goal, your Japanese study needs a clear direction.
JLPT Test Prep helps you build the grammar, vocabulary, reading, and listening skills required for your level while practicing how to work through the test itself.
Choose N5, N4, or N3 and work toward your goal step by step.
Not sure which level to start with?
Ready to start?
JLPT Test Prep is available for N5, N4, and N3.
Each course focuses on the grammar, vocabulary, reading, and listening required for that level.
Build the Japanese needed for the N5 level and prepare for basic vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening.
Continue developing stronger grammar, vocabulary, reading, and listening skills for the N4 level.
Work toward the more advanced vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and listening required for N3.
Knowing Japanese is important, but taking a language test also requires knowing how to work through the exam.
You’ll work on:
JLPT study continues between classes.
Study Room and Workbook homework give you time to review what you are learning and notice the parts you still need help with.
Then bring those questions into class.
You can check difficult grammar, vocabulary, reading, pronunciation, and other points with your instructor instead of staying stuck on your own.

JLPT is not only about remembering grammar rules.
You also need to recognize vocabulary in context, understand written Japanese, follow what you hear, and work within the time available.
Reading, listening, and mock exam practice help you see what you already understand and where you still need more work.
And the goal is not only the test.
As you build grammar, vocabulary, reading, and listening skills, you are also building Japanese you can continue using beyond the JLPT.

Passing the JLPT may be your goal, but the Japanese you study does not have to stay inside test practice.
The vocabulary, grammar, reading, and listening you build for the JLPT can also give you more Japanese to recognize and use outside the test.
Language Exchange gives you a chance to use some of the Japanese you have been studying with another person.
A real answer may not sound like the example you practiced. You may understand everything, catch only part of it, or realize that you need to hear something again.
That is part of what makes the conversation useful.
Sometimes the most useful result is not, “I said it perfectly.” It is, “Now I know what I need next.”
Your Japanese learning does not have to stop when class ends.
Living Room gives current Blue House students a place to stay connected between lessons. You can see what other students are sharing, ask a question, respond when you have something helpful to add, or simply follow along.
Sometimes you may be the person asking for help. Another time, you may already know something that helps someone else.
Study Exchange is an optional, student-led way for students to study together outside class.
If students organize one, you can bring what you are working on, study alongside other students, ask questions, and help each other.
Study Exchange is not a regularly scheduled school event, and participation is optional.
Your JLPT study can help you work toward the test while also giving you more Japanese to recognize, use, and connect with in everyday life.

JLPT Test Prep requires a placement test before enrollment.
If you are not sure whether N5, N4, or N3 is the right place to begin, you do not have to guess.
Check your current Japanese first, then start from the level that matches what you already know.
JLPT Test Prep is offered through Self-Paced only.
That means you work through the JLPT curriculum according to your own progress while still receiving instructor support in class.
JLPT N5, N4, and N3 are Self-Paced.
Then choose how you want Japanese study to fit into your week.
Self-Paced describes how you learn.
Fixed and Flex describe how you attend.
Some parts of JLPT preparation may move quickly for you.
Other grammar, vocabulary, reading, or listening skills may need more time.
Self-Paced lets you continue through your JLPT course according to your own progress instead of having to move at exactly the same speed as everyone else.
You can bring difficult points into class, check what you do not understand, and keep working toward your target level step by step.
Self-Paced does not mean learning alone.
Your instructor is there to support you with grammar, vocabulary, reading, listening, pronunciation, and test practice.
JLPT Test Prep is offered through Self-Paced, so you do not need to wait for a new JLPT term to begin.
You continue through your N5, N4, or N3 preparation according to your own progress and attend the Self-Paced lessons that match your Fixed or Flex plan.
Current 2027 Self-Paced lesson times include:
